Torys receives top honours at Canadian Law Awards
We are delighted to announce that Torys received five accolades at the 2021 Canadian Law Awards, including Litigator of the Year and Female Trailblazer of the Year.
Sylvie Rodrigue: Litigator of the Year
Montréal office Managing Partner and head of Torys’ Class Actions and Product Liability national practice groups Sylvie Rodrigue was named Litigator of the Year. This marks the second consecutive year that a Torys lawyer has received this recognition.
Sylvie’s approach to her work in class action litigation is ingenious and her tireless dedication and creative strategic thinking helps secure the best possible outcome for clients. In 2020, Sylvie actively defended over 40 class actions and individual cases, many proceeding to trial in Québec, Ontario, B.C., Alberta, Saskatchewan, Nova Scotia and before the Federal Court in various areas of the law including product liability, civil liability, employment, securities, privacy, consumer protection, constitutional, mass tort and negligence, breach of contract, construction, gaming, telecommunication, banking and commercial law.
Krista Hill: Female Trailblazer of the Year
Co-head of Torys’ Infrastructure and Energy practice Krista Hill was named Private Practice Female Trailblazer of the Year. Krista, who is a member of the firm’s Executive Committee and the Diversity and Inclusion Committee has continuously advocated for diversity, equity and inclusion particularly for women, LGBTQ2S people and racialized people in law.
Since joining Torys in 1993, Krista has advanced a personal mandate to break down barriers to progression that women in the corporate world face to pave the way for others who identify as LGBTQ2S. Krista remains true to that mandate, always seeking opportunities to pay it forward and prioritizing mentoring women at Torys. She was instrumental in the Women in Law@Torys initiative—a network of support to women that promotes their recruitment, retention and advancement and prepares them for partnership, was a founding member of Torys’ Diversity and Inclusion Committee, and formed Torys’ LGBTQ2S Affinity Group.
