Alec maintains a broad litigation and dispute resolution practice, with an emphasis on complex commercial disputes, class action defence, securities litigation, and insolvency. He is fluent in French and routinely acts for clients in both Ontario and Québec.

In his commercial practice, Alec represents financial institutions, manufacturers, and suppliers in contract disputes, with a particular focus on the Canadian automotive sector, where he acts for suppliers, manufacturers, software providers, and lenders. Alec also represents clients in multi-jurisdictional class action litigation across various industries, including banking, securities, and consumer goods.

Alec has gained considerable experience is securities-related litigation and investigations. Alec regularly represents financial institutions, public issuers, and investment dealers across a wide range of securities-related disputes and investigations by national and provincial securities regulators. He advises financial institutions and investment dealers on regulatory questions and compliance issues.

Alec also maintains an active insolvency litigation practice, where he acts for debtors and creditors in contested restructuring proceedings under the Companies Creditors’ Arrangement Act, receiverships, and distressed asset sales. He has particular experience in restructuring proceedings involving overlapping class action proceedings.

Alec has appeared as counsel before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, the Court of Appeal for Ontario, the British Columbia Court of Appeal, the Manitoba Court of King’s Bench, the Federal Court, and the Federal Court of Appeal.
