Torys honoured in multiple categories at 2026 Benchmark Litigation Canada Awards

Torys is delighted to announce that we have been recognized in four categories at the 2026 Benchmark Litigation Canada Awards.

The firm’s litigation team received the Impact Case of the Year award for its work in Re Hudson’s Bay Company, 2025 ONSC 5998, in which Cadillac Fairview successfully resisted forced assignment of Hudson’s Bay Company leases. This decision set a groundbreaking precedent in Canadian insolvency law, reshaping section 11.3 CCAA analysis and ipso facto clause enforcement. The Torys team consisted of partners David Bish and Jeremy Opolsky, senior associate Alec Angle, and associate Alina Butt.

In addition, three of our lawyers have been named litigator of the year in their respective categories.

Jeremy Opolsky was named Ontario Litigator of the Year. A skilled litigator, Jeremy’s excellence and trusted counsel are widely acknowledged. He is featured in Benchmark Canada’s 2026 Top 50 Trial Lawyer list and is consistently named a leading lawyer by the legal community, including Chambers Canada, LMG Life Sciences, Best Lawyers in Canada, Lexpert, and more. In 2025, he led the Torys team in a case that was recognized at the Canadian Law Awards for the Commercial Litigation Team of the Year.

Deborah Templer was named Product Liability Litigator of the Year. Deborah is a nationally recognized product liability litigator who holds one of the preeminent product liability practices in Canada. She practices nationally in commercial litigation, with a focus on product liability, mass tort, and class action matters. Deborah has consistently been recognized by Chambers Canada, Benchmark Litigation, Lexpert, and Best Lawyers.

Gillian Dingle was named Securities Litigator of the Year. As partner and co-head of the firm’s Securities Defence practice, Gillian Dingle’s excellence in this area is widely acknowledged. She has been featured numerous times in the Benchmark Canada: The Definitive Guide to Canada’s Leading Litigation Firms and Attorneys, most recently in the 2026 guide, and is consistently named a leading litigation lawyer by Chambers, Chambers Canada, The Legal 500, Lexpert/American Lawyer, and more.
