Overview

Gillian Dingle's practice focuses on civil litigation in the areas of corporate and securities law. She advises capital markets participants on regulatory matters and internal investigations, and provides representation in civil and regulatory proceedings and investigations conducted by the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada and the Ontario Securities Commission. Gillian focuses on proceedings involving disclosure, securities class actions, and defending investment dealers and brokers in trading-related matters. She also represents corporations in contested transaction matters before the courts and other regulators, and provides advice and representation in cases involving breach of contract and business torts.

Gillian has appeared as counsel in the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, the Court of Appeal for Ontario, the Federal Court and the Federal Court of Appeal, and before the Ontario Securities Commission and other securities regulators.

Professional Involvement

Before joining Torys, Gillian was senior in-house counsel at a Canadian financial institution. Prior to practicing in-house, Gillian spent over five years as a litigation associate at Torys and then left in 2011 to pursue her LLM at Columbia University.

Community

Gillian sits on the Steering Committee of the OSC Litigation Assistance Program that provides free legal assistance to unrepresented respondents to OSC administrative proceedings. Gillian also volunteers with Golden Future, an organization that performs outreach work with high school students in Khyelitsha township, South Africa.
