Kingston General Hospital

The project—implemented in multiple phases to ensure continuous operation of the hospital—involved the addition of 170,000 square feet and renovations to 143,000 square feet of the existing facility.

Highlights of the project include

• Intensive Care: The Level 3 Intensive Care Unit was expanded from 21 beds up to a range of 33 beds
• Acute Mental Health: A new inpatient mental health unit was constructed to provide a safe treatment setting for acutely ill patients
• Cancer Centre: The Cancer Centre of Southeastern Ontario was expanded from 54,445 square feet to 91,085 square feet and renovated to include the addition of two new radiation bunkers, 24 chemotherapy treatment chairs, and a specialized clinic area for paediatric patients
• In-Centre Dialysis: A new, expanded 40-station in-centre Kidney Dialysis Unit was constructed to provide patients with enhanced comfort and privacy
• Pediatrics: A new 25-bed unit was provided for inpatient paediatrics
• Medical-Surgical: A new unit was provided for 32 medical-surgical beds, consisting of more single and isolation rooms
• Central Processing Services: Central Processing Services, which supports surgical services in the cleaning, decontamination, sterilization and assembly of reusable instrument sets and reprocessable patient care items, was expanded and renovated
