Max Shakin’s practice focuses on corporate transactional law with an emphasis on private equity. Max represents public pension plans and other leading institutional investors in connection with their investments in private equity funds and hedge funds and co-investment transactions. Max also advises clients on general corporate and commercial matters.
Max regularly represents a number of institutional investors, including: Alberta Investment Management Corporation, Canada Pension Plan Investment Board, Ivanhoé Cambridge, Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan Board, OPSEU Pension Trust, Public Sector Pension Investment Board, as well as other pension fund clients.
Before joining Torys, Max was an associate in the New York office of a major international law firm. While attending NYU School of Law, Max was a staff editor for the Journal of Law & Business.
During law school, Max was a student advocate for the NYU Business Law Transactions Clinic, providing legal services on transactional and governance matters relating to the business needs of non-profit organizations.
