Matthew's practice focuses on civil and commercial litigation. His experience includes civil, commercial and class action litigation, and in particular, matters relating to insurance, real estate, insolvency and transportation law. Matthew has acted in proceedings before courts of first instance, the Québec Court of Appeal and the Federal Court of Canada.
Matthew has extensive experience dealing with the Québec Consumer Protection Act, particularly in the context of class action matters. In addition to his class action practice, Matthew regularly provides advice to clients in matters relating to compliance with consumer protection legislation, including regarding the impact of the modifications to Québec’s consumer protection regime arising from Bill 134, An Act mainly to modernize rules relating to consumer credit and to regulate debt settlement service contracts, high-cost credit contracts and loyalty programs.
Matthew also provides advice to Canadian and multinational corporations regarding language requirements and other legal requirements for doing business in Québec.
Matthew is responsible for the recruitment, onboarding and integration of the Montréal office’s summer students.
Matthew is fluent in French and English.
