Cheryl Reicin and Sylvie Rodrigue Win WXN’s 2019 Canada’s Most Powerful Women: Top 100 Award

We are thrilled to announce that two of our leaders at Torys, partners Cheryl Reicin and Sylvie Rodrigue, have been named winners of the Women’s Executive Network’s (WXN) 2019 Canada’s Most Powerful Women: Top 100 Award. This year, Cheryl has been given the honor of joining the WXN Hall of Fame, and Sylvie’s win falls under the Intact Professionals category for the second time since 2016.

The awards recognize the achievements of female professionals across Canada, with the goal of both building visibility for women who are leading the way and motivating the next generation of women leaders.

Cheryl is a partner and practice leader of Torys’ Life Sciences Practice, a cross-border group practising in both Canada and New York. In her recent interview with Canadian Lawyer magazine, Cheryl mentions that “the future of law is not about fitting the mould”, and Cheryl’s work building one of the country’s premier life sciences practices from the ground up is a perfect example of the mould-breaking initiatives that have defined her career. She has been a trustee of SickKids Hospital (Toronto) since 2012 and currently serves on their Board’s Audit and Finance Committee, as well as the Litigation Committee. Cheryl’s exceptional professional experience and tireless efforts in the community mean she is also frequently tapped as a panel speaker for non-profit and community events.

Sylvie is the managing partner of our Montréal office which she opened in 2013 and built from the ground up. Sylvie is the co-chair of our national Class Actions practice which has grown into one of the best in the country under her leadership. Her unique practice split between our Montréal and Toronto offices has led her to be recognized as a star in class actions litigation. Throughout her career, she has been integral in shaping the legal landscape of class actions in Canada, not only because of the landmark cases she has defended, but also by chairing multiple committees and task forces across the country and abroad, including the National Task Force on Class Actions of the Canadian Bar Association. Sylvie is also an advocacy instructor, serves on multiple boards and is dedicated to mentoring the next generation of lawyers through various organizations including as Chair of the Québec division of the Advocate Society. She is a sought-after speaker and is involved with multiple charitable organizations.
