Connor Clark & Lunn acquisition of interest in Ontario wind projects
On January 7, 2025, Connor, Clark & Lunn Infrastructure (“CC&L Infrastructure”) announced the acquisition of a significant interest in two Ontario-based wind projects—the 180 MW Armow Wind Farm and the 149 MW Grand Renewable Wind Farm —representing approximately 330 MW of gross capacity from Pattern Energy Group LP (“Pattern Energy”).
Armow Wind Farm
Spread across 46,000 acres of mostly leased, privately-owned lands in Kincardine (Bruce County), Ontario, approximately 3 km from Lake Huron, Armow is an onshore wind farm that consists of 91 2.3 MW Siemens Energy wind turbines, generating enough power for approximately 70,000 homes in an average year. It commenced operations in December 2015.
Grand Renewable Wind Farm
Spread over a 25 km area between the communities of Dunnville and Hagersville in Haldimand County, Ontario, Grand Renewable is an onshore wind farm that consists of 67 Ontario-made Siemens 2.3 MW wind turbines, generating enough power for approximately 50,000 homes in an average year. It commenced operations in December 2014.
All of the energy generated by both projects is sold under 20-year power purchase agreements to the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO).
CC&L Infrastructure and Pattern Energy will own the assets alongside Samsung Renewable Energy (“Samsung”) and Six Nations of the Grand River, in the case of Grand Renewable Wind. CC&L Infrastructure and Samsung have previously worked together to build and operate approximately 300 MW of solar projects across four sites in Ontario.
Further information on the transaction can be found on Canada Newswire’s website.
CC&L Infrastructure invests in middle-market infrastructure assets. To date, it has accumulated over C$6 billion in assets under management diversified across a variety of geographies, sectors and asset types, with approximately 100 underlying facilities across over 35 individual investments.
Pattern Energy is one of the world's largest privately-owned developers and operators of wind, solar, transmission, and energy storage projects. Its operational portfolio includes more than 30 renewable energy facilities that use proven, best-in-class technology with an operating capacity of nearly 6,000 MW across North America.
