Torys acted as counsel to EDP Renewables Canada in the development and construction of the 100 MW Nation Rise Wind Farm located in eastern Ontario, including the renewable energy approval (REA) application, related permitting and approval processes, its power purchase agreement under the 2015 Large Renewable Procurement I program facilitated by the Independent Electricity System Operator, as well as land and municipal road approvals.
The wind farm, which covers 12,000 acres of primarily agricultural land 40 km southeast of Ottawa in the municipality of North Stormont, consists of 29 Enercon E-138 3.4 MW turbines generating enough electricity to support the needs of more than 35,000 households.
The facility reached commercial operation in June 2021 and is supported by a 20-year power purchase agreement with the Independent Electricity System Operator.
