Roots Canada sells majority stake to private equity firm
Torys acted as counsel to Searchlight Capital Partners with a team that included Michael Akkawi, Jacob Weinstock, Allison Hennick and Crystal Chung (corporate/M&A), Amanda Balasubramanian and Simon Williams (lending), Andrew Wong and Charlotte Cameron (tax), Ed Fan and Steve Hundal (IP), Ebad Rahman and Sharon Au (contracting), Mitch Frazer and Brad Tartick (employment), Andy Gibbons (real estate) and Omar Wakil (regulatory).
On October 26, 2015, Searchlight Capital Partners, L.P. (Searchlight) announced that they concluded a formal agreement to make a significant investment in Roots Canada Ltd. (Roots) to support the brand's next phase of growth. As a result of the investment, Searchlight will hold a majority stake in Roots.
The terms of the agreement were undisclosed.
