Sylvie Rodrigue Ad. E. share insights from her new book

Torys partner and Montréal managing partner Sylvie Rodrigue Ad. E. sat down with Canadian Lawyer to share some of her personal stories and lessons on resilience and success. In her recently launched book Own It! Lessons Every Woman Should Know, Sylvie takes readers through her journey from leaving home at 16 to becoming one of the most recognized litigators in Canada.

“The book is divided into eight life lessons, and each life lesson has a professional and a personal component,” Sylvie told Canadian Lawyer.

“I’m a firm believer—and it’s a major theme throughout the book—that you need to be whole, and well-rounded and succeed in your personal and professional life.

In the podcast interview, Sylvie said that of the eight lessons in the book, there are two central ones.

“The first one is to ensure you be the master of your own destiny,” she said.

“You don’t ask for people to help you, you need to go ahead of the curve and ask and have a plan on what you want to do with your personal and professional life and take specific steps to make it happen.

“And that requires having a very specific plan: short term, medium term, long term.

“The second is to have the courage to step outside your comfort zone because you do not accomplish much if you stay within the four corners of what you’re comfortable doing.”
