CCPPP recognizes Torys in two award-winning projects at the 2024 National Awards

Torys is proud to share that the firm’s Infrastructure practice has been recognized on a national level at the 2024 National Awards for Innovation and Excellence, hosted by the Canadian Council for Public-Private Partnerships (CCPPP). Torys was a part of two projects that were honoured at this year’s awards ceremony.

The Corner Brook Acute Care Hospital (now the new Western Memorial Regional Hospital) was awarded gold in the Design and Construction category. Led by partners Daniel Ford and Josh Van Deurzen, Torys acted as counsel to the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador and the Western Regional Health Authority as the public authorities for the C$750 million project to design, build, finance and maintain a new acute care hospital in Corner Brook, Newfoundland and Labrador. This project was also recognized by CCPPP in 2020 when it won silver in project development.

The Tłı̨chǫ All-Season Road was also awarded gold in the Service Delivery category. Infrastructure partner Mark Bain led the team of Torys lawyers, including partners Daniel Ford and Andy Gibbons, to represent the Government of the Northwest Territories as the public authority for this project to design, build, finance, operate and maintain a new 97 km, two-lane all-season road northwest of Yellowknife. This project also received gold in project development by the CCPPP in 2019.

Created in 1998 by the CCPPP, the National Awards for Innovation and Excellence celebrate and recognize Canada’s cutting-edge infrastructure projects involving public sector entities like governments and educational institutions partnering with the private sector.
