Developments in Canada’s renewable energy sector continue to advance the country’s goal of a net-zero future. However, there is still much to consider. Partner and co-head of Torys’ Infrastructure and Energy practice Krista Hill shared her comments on the matter in Lexpert’s Special Edition on Energy.
Krista believes the transition to clean energy will be a “significant driver” over the next few decades as more jurisdictions around the world focus on decarbonization in one way or another.
She continued by noting that there will be challenges in upping electricity generation cleanly and sustainably, including “moving on a lot of fronts at the same time.”
“There’s no one solution where if we just do this, we’ll be okay,” Krista said.
“A multi-prong solution is needed in energy transition, not a simple challenge that one answer can solve.”
One example she shared was that the increased use of electric vehicles will consequently adjust the demand of electricity use at nighttime as people charge their vehicles, which in turn will require an efficient distribution network for all to access.
