Elgin County Courthouse
Torys acted as counsel to Balfour Beatty Capital Canada as a shortlisted proponent for the St. Thomas Elgin County Courthouse PPP project to design, build, finance and maintain a new consolidated courthouse in St. Thomas, Ontario.
Constructed on the site of the historic Elgin County Courthouse and Land Registry Office, the new building will consolidate the Superior Court of Justice and the Ontario Court of Justice court facilities.
Highlights of the project include
- a new multi-storey building with space to accommodate eight courtrooms and three conference/settlement rooms
- an extensively refurbished historic Elgin County Courthouse and former Land Registry Office incorporated into the new consolidated courthouse
- a commitment by the government to meet the Canada Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver standard, incorporating environmentally sustainable construction practices and energy efficient design
