John is a partner in the firm’s Tax Department. John solves tax problems with his unique and broad tax experience covering (i) transactional work, (ii) planning and counsel roles, and (iii) tax controversy/transfer pricing for many of Canada’s largest businesses and financial institutions. John represents multinational and Canadian businesses in the private and public sector in a broad mix of tax matters, including tax structuring, international transactions, transfer pricing, tax controversy, corporate finance, derivatives, securitization and mergers and acquisitions. His experience includes representation of international and domestic businesses, banks, financial institutions, mutual funds and government agencies in domestic and cross-border transactions, infrastructure, energy (including wind, solar and hydro), public private partnerships, financial products, lending and securitizations, income funds, managed assets and leasing. John has extensive experience in the areas of federal and provincial income tax, international tax, sales and use tax, goods and services tax and harmonized sales tax. John taught International Tax at Osgoode Hall Law School.

John served on the Adjunct Faculty of Law at Osgoode Hall Law School (2012-2015) (International Tax Seminar) and he is Vice Chair and a Director of Michael Garron Hospital (formerly Toronto East General Hospital), as well as the Chair of the Hospital Construction Redevelopment Committee. He is a governor of the Canadian Tax Foundation. He is also the past Chair of the Board of Rethink Breast Cancer and a Tax Committee Member at both the Canadian Finance and Leasing Association and the Investment Funds Institute of Canada and on the Canadian executive of the International Fiscal Association. John also served as the President for the Osgoode Hall Law School Alumni Association 2009 to 2012 and as an Executive Member of the Ontario Bar Association from 2000-2014 (Vice Chair 2014).
