Nicole's practice focuses on commercial litigation with particular emphasis on the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and life sciences sectors, and includes patent and trademark litigation, product liability and class actions and regulatory and judicial review proceedings. Nicole has worked on numerous patent infringement, impeachment and related proceedings (including under the Patented Medicines (Notice of Compliance) Regulations) concerning leading drug products for international and North American pharmaceutical companies. Nicole has also represented pharmaceutical, health product and medical device manufacturers in defending product liability claims across Canada, including class proceedings. Nicole also represents clients in regulatory matters, including in proceedings for judicial review and has assisted numerous Canadian and international companies in defending and enforcing trademark rights in Canada.

Nicole has appeared as counsel in the Ontario Superior Court, the Federal Court and Federal Court of Appeal and in the Supreme Court of Canada.

Professional Involvement

Nicole is an active member of the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada (IPIC), serving as the Chair of the IPIC Foundation Committee and past Chair of the IPIC Young Practitioners Committee. She is also a contributing author of the Patent Enforcement Chapter in Blanchard’s Life Sciences Law in Canada and a member of The Advocates’ Society.

Nicole is a frequent advocacy advisor in the Ryerson Law Practice Program’s Trial Advocacy Course and is a regular volunteer on Pro Bono Ontario’s Legal Advice Hotline.
