Jonathan’s practice focuses on corporate law, with an emphasis on asset management, investment funds and private equity funds, and securities regulation. Jonathan regularly advises domestic and international fund sponsors with respect to structuring, registration and distribution, and he provides ongoing support to clients with respect to Canadian securities regulatory compliance. In addition, Jonathan has assisted clients with obtaining dealer, adviser and investment fund manager registrations and necessary non-objections/approvals/exemptions from securities commissions in Canada to complete certain M&A transactions.
Furthermore, Jonathan regularly tracks Canadian securities law developments in the areas of investment funds and leads internal continuing education meetings for our Investment Funds and Asset Management expert group.
Jonathan was involved in assisting the Toronto Police Service in its Independent Review of the Use of Lethal Force, an ongoing consideration of police practices in incidents involving mentally and emotionally disturbed persons.
During law school, Jonathan was a Graduate and Research Assistant at the Department of Public Policy at York University and a contributing editor of the Osgoode Review of Law and Policy. Jonathan also served as a mentor to first-year law students in the Osgoode Mentor Program.
Jonathan also spent a term in Israel studying international law at Hebrew University.
At Torys, Jonathan coordinated the Yonge Street Mission Winter Hope Clothing Drive and assisted with Dress for Success Toronto's Bay Street Suit Challenge.
