Emma’s practice focuses on litigation and dispute resolution including international arbitration, tax controversies, and commercial litigation. She also has experience providing legal and policy support to the federal government and courts on issues including digital compliance, regulatory technology, and the use of Artificial Intelligence.
Emma was the former chair of Torys’ Asian Employees Resource Group (2023-2024).
Emma is fluent in Cantonese and Mandarin.
Emma was awarded the best cross examination by the Tax Court of Canada.
During law school, she was awarded the W. & E. Mendes Globalization in Law Prize for highest standing in Globalization and Law, the Newton Rowell Scholarship for academic merit and commitment to public service, the Common Law Professional Training Scholarship for academic merit. Before law school, she also received the Clyde K. Wells Prize in Constitutional Affairs awarded by the Court of Appeal of Newfoundland and Labrador, and the Legal Research Award by the Law Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador.
Emma previously served as a judicial law clerk in the Tax Court of Canada.
Emma is a member of The Advocates’ Society, the Advocacy Club, the Young Canadian Arbitration Practitioners, the Organization of Women in International Trade, and the Federation of Asian Canadian Lawyers. She was a former member of the executives on the Ontario Bar Association’s Young Lawyer Division, Women Lawyers Forum, and Student section.
Emma has represented Canadian youths at the International Monetary Fund/World Bank meetings as a Young Diplomats of Canada delegate, co-chaired the Ontario Bar Association Women Lawyers Forum’s Pathways to Power program, and moderated Canada/US/China trade policy discussions for the Canada China Forum. She also spearheaded efforts to fundraise and secure personal protective equipment for Ottawa healthcare professionals during the COVID-19 pandemic.
During law school, she was a Technoship fellow with the Centre for Law, Technology and Society and the co-president of the International Commercial and Trade Law Students’ Association.
