Sumeet is a senior associate with extensive experience drafting complex commercial agreements, including IP/technology licenses, joint venture arrangements, supply and distribution contracts, and professional service agreements. He is a trusted IP specialist on a broad-range of corporate transactions, including M&A deals, public offerings and lending arrangements.

In addition, Sumeet advises clients on a wide-variety of regulatory matters, including advertising and product labelling, privacy and access to information disclosure requests, product recalls and securing product licenses for clients in regulated industries.

Sumeet is also an experienced registered Canadian trademark agent with a practice focusing on all aspects of trademark law.

Professional Involvement

Prior to working at Torys, Sumeet worked as a technology transfer officer for a large Canadian research university and its affiliated health centres. During this time, Sumeet managed the IP and commercialization of invention disclosures, which ranged from medical and surgical devices to novel drug targets.

Sumeet has also worked with a large aerospace engineering and manufacturing company in the United Kingdom, contributing to the development of its IP management and commercialization strategies.

In 2008, Sumeet was on secondment in South Africa with the South African Department of Science and Technology, where he assisted in the drafting and implementation of legislation that sets out the rights related to IP generated from publicly funded research institutions.
