Sophie's practice focuses primarily on M&A and private equity. She works closely with the firm’s lawyers to ensure they are across the latest M&A and private equity developments both in Canada and the U.S. Sophie also researches and tracks market practice in public and private company M&A. She has represented clients in a variety of corporate transactions, including public and private M&A deals, other business reorganizations and corporate finance matters.
Sophie has experience working as a corporate associate in Torys’ Toronto office.
Sophie is fluent in French and proficient in Spanish.
Sophie has recently been involved in representing:
- Brookfield Property Partners in its acquisition of a US$1.4 billion additional interest in General Growth Properties
- GDF SUEZ Canada Inc. in its C$2.5 billion sale of 680 MW Canadian renewable generation portfolio to Mitsui & Co. Ltd. and a consortium led by Fiera Axium Infrastructure Inc., including a large-scale reorganization; two equity divestitures representing 60% of the portfolio; and the placement of C$1.6 billion of non-recourse debt financing on wind and solar assets located in Ontario, British Columbia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island
- Bank of Montreal in its offerings of non-principal protected notes
During law school, Sophie volunteered at the McGill Legal Information Clinic and was a tutorial leader for a civil obligations course.
