Food and Drug Regulatory LawThe Ontario government has now released the finalized version of the Regulations under the Healthy Menu Choices Act, 2015. The Act and Regulations, which come into force on January 1, 2017, require that food service premises with 20 or more locations in Ontario that sell prepared, ready-to-eat food post calorie content on their menus.

The Regulations which were finalized after public consultation exempt certain premises from the calories posting requirements, such as premises that operate for 60 days or less per year, schools, correctional institutions and child care centers. Further, food or drink items offered for sale by a food service premise for less than 90 days per year will also be exempt from the requirements.
