MPs Gather to Study Feasibility of a National Pharmacare Program

Food and Drug Regulatory LawThe first meeting of the Commons Standing Committee on Health (the “Committee”) on its study on how Canada might create a national pharmacare program was held on April 13, 2016. The Committee will study the feasibility of a publicly funded drug insurance plan that would cover essential drug costs, and also examine the costs and assess implications of such a plan.

Canadian Health Minister Jane Philpott told the Committee that while she is looking forward to the findings of the Committee’s report, her priority at the moment is to bring down the price of pharmaceuticals in Canada.
