Administration of Vaccines by Pharmacists in Ontario

Food and Drug Regulatory LawThe Ontario College of Pharmacists has proposed amendments to the Pharmacy Act general regulation that would allow pharmacists to administer travel-related vaccines for certain diseases to patients five years of age or older, provided patients have a valid prescription for these vaccines.

In a separate but related proposed amendment, pharmacy students and interns would also be permitted to administer injections, including the travel-related vaccines and vaccines related to the Universal Influenza Immunization Program.

Comments on the consultation are due by May 30, 2016.
