Blockchain technology presents many new ways to conduct business in Canada, streamlining processes and creating efficiencies whilst minimizing risk and intermediaries. However, with many organisations and industries on the cusp of its implementation, questions around its use cases remain.

Join us for our series detailing the blockchain revolution, and the regulatory and industry trends shaping its future in Canada.

The state of play for privacy

A defining feature of blockchain is its ability to keep a permanent, unalterable history of transactions, allowing ledgers to provide a clear snapshot of who did what and when. However, this immutability is often seen as at odds with a consumers right to manage, and remove, their digital footprint.

Join Torys’ blockchain and privacy lawyers, with special guest Fadwa Mohanna, Chief Executive Officer of One37, for a discussion of the opportunities—and tensions—of using blockchain solutions to protect and enhance privacy. The panel will discuss the advantages and risks of the anonymity afforded by many blockchain-based tools, how privacy law applies to data stored on such systems, and how privacy-by-design principles can be deployed to align the business, security and compliance goals of these initiatives.

This session will be presented in English.
