This session will provide an overview of the current trends in equity crowdfunding.
Over the last few years, crowdfunding has become a much discussed alternative source of financing for startups and other early stage companies in technology and other industries. After a number of prominent fundraising successes through donation platforms, securities regulators in the U.S. and Canada are looking more carefully at the facilitation and regulation of equity crowdfunding. Crowdfunding models and how they continue to develop as a viable financing alternative will be discussed in the context of the current legal landscape highlighting the unique securities and corporate law issues that arise in such financings.
