Bekevar Wind Farm
Torys acted as counsel to the lender to Bekevar Wind L.P., a partnership between Renewable Energy Systems Canada Inc. and Awasis Nehiyawewini Energy Development, in the project financing of the 200 MW Bekevar Wind Farm in southeastern Saskatchewan.
The current layout for the wind farm plans for 40 Siemens Gamesa 5.2-145 5.2 MW turbines, generating enough electricity to support the needs of more than 90,000 households.
The project will be located on approximately 20,000 acres of private land north of Moose Mountain Provincial Park in the rural municipalities of Hazelwood No. 94, Kingsley No. 124, as well as on three quarter sections (about 500 acres) of Cowessess First Nation reserve land.
Construction of the project began in summer 2023 and targeted for completion by the end of 2024. Once complete, the power generated by the project will be sold to SaskPower under a 25-year power purchase agreement.
