MacKenzie Vaughan Hospital
Torys acted as counsel to Johnson Controls as the facilities management service provider to Plenary Health, the successful proponent for the C$1.3 billion Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital PPP project to design, build, finance and maintain a new state-of-the-art hospital at the northwest corner of Jane and Major Mackenzie Drive in Vaughan, Ontario.
Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital will be the first hospital built in the city of Vaughan, and the first new hospital built in the York Region in the last 30 years. It will also be the first hospital in Canada to feature fully integrated "smart" technology, which features systems and medical devices that can speak directly to one another to maximize information exchange.
On October 25, 2016, Infrastructure Ontario (IO) and Mackenzie Health (MH) awarded a fixed-price contract to Plenary Health—a consortium consisting of Plenary Group (Canada) Ltd., Stantec Architecture Ltd., PCL Constructors Canada Inc. and Johnson Controls Canada LP—in connection with the new hospital. The contract is valued at approximately C$1.3 billion. Construction will begin immediately and is expected to be completed in 2020.
