Mexichem completes US$300 million acquisition of AlphaGary
Torys acted as Canadian counsel to Mexichem with a team that included Adam Armstrong, Graham Rawlinson, Dennis Mahony, Adrienne DiPaolo and Mitch Frazer.
On January 10, 2011, Mexichem (Public, MXK: MEXCHEM) announced that it has completed the acquisition of AlphaGary from U.S.-based Rockwood Holdings Inc. (Public, NYSE: ROC) for approximately US$300 million. Rockwood intends to use the proceeds to pay down debt.
Mexico-based Mexichem is engaged in the transformation of chemicals and petrochemicals into products and solutions used in the construction, agriculture and industrial sectors.
AlphaGary makes plastic compounds for wires, cables and medical devices. The company has operations in the U.S., Canada and Europe.
Rockwood Holdings, headquarter in Princeton, New Jersey, is a developer, manufacturer and marketer of specialty chemicals and advanced materials used for industrial and commercial purposes.
