K+S Aktiengesellschaft completes US$1.576 billion acquisition of Morton International
Torys acted as counsel to K+S Aktiengesellschaft on certain Canadian legal aspects with a team that included Patricia Koval, Michael Akkawi and Matthew Atkey (corporate), Jay Holsten and Sue-Anne Fox (competition and antitrust), Mitch Frazer and Tara Sastri (pension and employment) and Michael Fortier and Tyson Dyck (environmental, health and safety).
On October 1, 2009, K+S Aktiengesellschaft announced that it completed the US$1.576 billion purchase of Morton International Inc. from Rohm and Haas, which in turn is owned by Dow Chemical. The deal makes K+S the world's largest salt producer.
K+S is a major agrichemicals firm based in Kassel, Germany.
Morton International, founded in 1848, was North America's largest salt producer.
