Breakfast With Appeal: The Toronto v. Ontario Edition

The breakfast may be the final dregs of the Halloween candy (looking at you, stale Tootsie rolls), but the appeal remains the same: a candid discussion of the law you want to know about.

Join us for our November instalment of Breakfast With Appeal. We will be joined by special guest Professor Michael Pal of the University of Ottawa, an expert on elections law, to discuss the Supreme Court’s decision in Toronto v. Ontario, including:

  • the “right” to democracy;
  • what the ruling tells us (and doesn’t tell us) about unwritten constitutional principles;
  • positive and negative freedom of expression claims and the difference between them; and
  • what it could mean for future Charter claims.

After the panel discussion, we will have a special 15 minute one-on-one Q&A with Professor Pal about some hot topics in elections law, and where the next Charter challenges to election legislation might come from.

8:45 a.m. – 9:45 a.m. EDT presentation
