Canadian infrastructure projects need “participation of Indigenous groups”

Valerie Helbronner has spoken with Lexpert on the continued importance of Indigenous consultation and participation in the successful development of infrastructure projects in Canada.

The article reports on the issues raised by the Wet’suwet’en Hereditary Chiefs in respect of the Coastal GasLink pipeline in late-2019 and early-2020. Although public attention has been diverted elsewhere due to the COVID-19 pandemic, infrastructure projects are set to play a key role in Canada’s economic recovery. Valerie points out that in these upcoming infrastructure projects, “the role and participation of Indigenous groups… is going to be fundamentally important”.
