Mark Bain on Canadian infrastructure projects
In Lexpert’s special edition on infrastructure law, partner Mark Bain discusses the strength of the Canadian infrastructure market. The article states Canada’s public-private partnership (P3) model is internationally recognized, and with that recognition has come international interest from investors.
“P3 is a vibrant market”, said Mark. “We’ve seen the entire world land on the Canadian doorstep to get a piece of that market”.
Mark also comments on the positive effects coming out of the Canadian government in developing its infrastructure, stating “more and better infrastructure is a great economic booster”.
The article explores significant P3 projects in the Canadian market and the vital involvement of local communities in economic and urban development. One example Mark shares is Torys’ involvement in the Tlicho All-Season Road project in the Northwest Territories, where Torys acted for the government. The 97-kilometre project aims to improve urban access for the Whatì, Gamètì and Wekweètì communities in the Northwest Territories.
“I’m certainly an optimist in [the infrastructure] space”, concludes Mark. “We’ve got a good thing going, and I think there’s more to come”.
