Overview
Read here about Torys involvement with the CanInfra Challenge; a Canada-wide contest that encourages the next generation infrastructure concepts.
We are proud of our long history with PPP. From offices in Canada and the United States, we are a market leader, with experience in many first-of-type transactions.
Torys has unparalleled depth and breadth of PPP experience. Torys’ lawyers were some of the first to be involved in shaping the Canadian PPP market and have played a leadership role in its evolution ever since. We are the firm of choice to advise sponsors, lenders, governments, public authorities, contractors and service providers on their most complex and innovative projects in Canada and around the globe.
Governments and other public entities worldwide continue to look for ways to maximize the impact and value of their infrastructure spending. Many have adopted Public-Private Partnerships (P3s) as an efficient approach to these transactions and one which creates good value for money for the public sector.
The Canadian P3 market has recently been one of the most active globally, with 200 projects valued at over $60 billion now completed or underway. The initial focus on social infrastructure, primarily in the areas of healthcare and justice, is extending to other sectors such as transportation, transit, communications, water and wastewater, social housing and alternative delivery models for public services. The U.S. P3 market is also expanding strongly.
Our Practice
As early advocates of the PPP approach, members of our practice were participants in the policy discussions and issue framing needed during the development of pilot projects. Our active involvement in the industry’s inception led to many successful first-of-type or otherwise innovative projects. From our New York office, we are active in the rapidly developing United States PPP market.
Our advisory and service expertise includes advising on various PPP models including:
- DBFM/O;
- BF;
