Great Lakes Carbon LLC completes private placement of US$100 million notes
Following Great Lakes Carbon Income Fund's initial public offering, Torys was retained by Great Lakes as its going-forward corporate counsel. The Torys team in New York included Darren Baccus, Michael Fox, Maria Krasnikow, Andy Beck, Brad Cost and Carl Walker, while the team in Toronto included Jamie Scarlett, Glen Johnson, Suh Kim, Melinda Anderson, Adam Delean and Ann Marie McGovern.
On August 17, 2004, Great Lakes Carbon LLC completed a private placement of US$100 million 5.29% Senior Secured Notes due 2009. Purchasers of the notes included several insurance providers, including General Electric Capital Assurance, SunAmerica Life Insurance, AIG Annuity Insurance, PHL Variable Insurance, Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance and First Colony Life Insurance. The proceeds of the placement were used to retire a portion of the existing senior bank facility of Great Lakes Carbon.
