Before joining Torys, Paul served as a law clerk to Justice Wyman W. Webb of the Federal Court of Appeal. He also practiced public accounting at a national accounting firm. He has served as a professor of Advanced Taxation in the Master of Professional Accounting program at the University of Saskatchewan.

Paul has volunteered with Law in Action Within Schools (LAWS), a program that uses legal education as a tool to assist high school students to succeed in school and become engaged and active citizens. He has also served on the Boards of Directors of non-profit organizations.

Paul is a member of the Canadian Tax Foundation, CPA Ontario, and CPA Saskatchewan.
