Partner and head of Torys’ Project Finance practice Scott Kraag and counsel Steven Slavens will speak at the Connect North American Investment in Digital Infrastructure and AI conference taking place February 11 in Montréal. The conference will explore the evolving digital infrastructure and AI landscape in North America, including data sovereignty challenges, rising energy demands from AI workloads, and expanding investment opportunities across the data center sector.
Scott and Steven will speak on the panel “Canada's Data Sovereignty Challenge in the Age of AI: The Risks of Foreign Infrastructure Dependency and Opportunities for New Canadian Players to Emerge” at 11:30 a.m. The panel will examine whether Canada can pursue a sovereign cloud strategy, how it might reduce reliance on dominant foreign providers, and what steps can protect sensitive data. It will also consider how AI workloads intensify these challenges, and opportunities for Canadian providers to build secure, domestically anchored alternatives.
