Mental health matters, with Clara Hughes

Speakers

  • Clara Hughes, six-time Canadian Olympic medalist

As part of Torys’ commitment to moving mental health forward, promoting awareness and reducing stigma, we are always seeking and encouraging the sharing of stories. These stories are powerful agents in bringing about understanding, awareness and compassion.

Join us as we hear from six-time Canadian Olympic medalist, Clara Hughes, who will share her own mental health story.

Clara is the only athlete in history to win multiple medals at both the summer and winter Olympic Games. Despite the glory and her remarkable accomplishments throughout her career, Clara has carried a lot. She lost the better part of two years of her young athletic life to a mental health crisis at a time when there wasn’t much talk about trauma, mental health or substance use disorders. With support, help, hard work and healing, Clara got to a better place and vowed to use her platform to highlight mental health and the struggles of so many.

Clara is one of Canada’s leading mental health advocates working to combat the stigma that still surrounds mental illness. Our hope is that through her story, we can all learn to face our fears, find our voice and carry forward the important dialogue around mental health.

This session will be presented in English.
