Indigenous history and culture in Canada with The Honourable Senator Murray Sinclair
Join all of us here at the firm this fall for our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion series focusing on how we can all lead and promote a culture of social awareness in our organizations that fosters respect, tolerance and inclusion.
Senator Murray Sinclair was the first Indigenous judge appointed in Manitoba and the second in Canada. He served as the co-chair of the Aboriginal Justice Inquiry in Manitoba and Chief Commissioner of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC). As head of the TRC, Senator Sinclair participated in hundreds of hearings across Canada, culminating in the issuance of the TRC’s landmark report in 2015.
In this session, Senator Sinclair will touch on topics including Indigenous history and culture in Canada; challenges Indigenous persons face in the workplace and society; the history of civil rights and equality for Indigenous persons; and will provide tools that will help engage productive conversations about anti-racism, allyship and inclusiveness in our own daily lives.
