Following the release of Torys’ 2025 climate disclosure report, The Globe and Mail has referenced the results of the study in an article exploring the future of ESG in Canada.
Titled “Climate disclosure at a crossroads”, Torys’ 2025 report examines the climate disclosure practices of over 200 of Canada’s largest public companies. This year, we also provide year-over-year analysis on how Canadian issuers have responded to the evolving political environment around sustainability reporting, regulation and best practices in both Canada and the United States.

Amidst the shifting attitudes and priorities around ESG and climate change, the report found that 91% of companies surveyed published a sustainability, ESG, climate action or similar report, down from 95% in last year’s study, and materially fewer companies used the term “ESG” to describe their report.
