Karrin Powys-Lybbe on advising Brookfield on some of its most significant transactions
The Deal Pipeline has profiled M&A co-head Karrin Powys-Lybbe for her role assisting Brookfield Asset Management Inc. on some of its most noteworthy and complex transactions in recent years.
Most recently, Karrin led the deal team on Brookfield Asset Management’s proposed acquisition of all of the limited partnership units of Brookfield Property Partners L.P., representing a value for public unitholders of US$6.5 billion
This deal is one of many Karrin has led for Brookfield, whose extensive expertise on complex transaction work is highly sought after.
In 2020, Karrin represented Brookfield Renewable Partners LP on its purchase of TerraForm Power Inc. and on the purchase of 43% of Genworth MI Canada Inc. for US$1.2 billion.
Additionally, in 2019 she advised Brookfield on its purchase of 57% of Genworth for US$1.8 billion and on its US$4.7 billion acquisition of a 62% stake in Oaktree Capital Group LLC.
And in 2018, Karrin collaborated with Goodwin’s Opper and Gilbert Menna to counsel Brookfield Property Partners on its purchase of the remaining 66% of GGP Inc. for US$9.25 billion and advised Brookfield on its US$11.4 billion acquisition of Forest City Realty Trust.
