Torys named 2020 Alberta Firm of the Year
We are proud to report that the firm has been named the Alberta Firm of the Year award—as well as winning two other awards—by IFLR Canada in their annual recognitions.
Our Calgary office has grown significantly since its opening nine years ago, and we are proud of the broad scope of our team’s expertise and capabilities in the Alberta oil and gas sector and beyond.
In addition to the Alberta Firm of the Year, Torys received awards in two other categories:
- Canada Banking and Finance Deal of the Year for our work in the Wataynikaneyap $1.9 billion Power Transmission Project. Torys was project counsel to Wataynikaneyap Power, a partnership between 24 First Nations and FortisOntario Inc. Torys has acted on the project since 2013 and has advised on a wide range of commercial, regulatory and strategic matters related to the development, construction, financing and operation.
- Canada Capital Markets Deal of the Year for our work on Home Trust Company's C$475 million private multiclass offering of Series 2019-1 mortgage backed notes. This transaction used a novel structure that had not previously been used in Canadian RMBS transactions, which provided a more certain tax treatment for U.S. investors.
This is the second time this year the firm has been recognized by IFLR: last month, Torys was named Capital Markets Firm of the Year for Canada at the 15th annual IFLR Americas Awards, as well as winning in three other categories--Private Equity Deal of the Year, High Yield Deal of the Year and Project Finance Deal of the Year.
Congratulations to all our teams for their well-deserved wins.
