Media Seeks Cheryl Reicin's Opinion on Ontario's Retail Sale of Marijuana

September 11, 2017

Quotes from Torys partner and head of our Life Sciences Practice Cheryl Reicin on the Ontario Government’s announcement regarding the retail sale of marijuana have been published across a number of news outlets, including CP24 and the CTV News.

Cheryl’s comments relate to the Ontario Government’s decision to be the sole brick-and-mortar and e-commerce seller of recreational marijuana when it is legalized next year.

Cheryl said it would be interesting to see the effect having a dominant wholesale customer would have on the industry and its producers.

She said having one main buyer would make it hard for smaller marijuana producers to compete.

"It's going to put a lot of pricing pressure on the LPs, the licensed producers... It will be interesting to see how many players they deal with," Cheryl said.

"Whether it's going to be a whole bunch, or whether the numbers will dwindle."

Cheryl’s comments were published on the following sites:

- CP24

- Ottawa Business Journal

- CTV News

- Inside Toronto

- National Post

- CityNews

- Halifax Chronicle

- Montréal Gazette
