ISLP Receives National Recognition in Liberia

August 25, 2017

One of Torys’ pro bono clients has received Liberia’s highest honour in recognition of providing more than 10 years of legal assistance to the country.

The Torys team, headed up by Bill Estey, has been supporting the International Senior Lawyers Project (ISLP) since 2010. ISLP received the honour from Liberia’s President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf on July 25 for providing legal assistance throughout part of the country’s 14-year civil war.

The formal citation signed by President Sirleaf notes that, over the decade of its involvement, ISLP has provided over 140 volunteers to Liberia, who worked on approximately 100 projects and contributed more than 35,000 hours of their time.

Bill has contributed in excess of 1,000 hours to ISLP and said it had been a privilege to work with so many wonderful dedicated people in Liberia.

Torys continues to dedicate its services to pro bono and community work and prides itself on its connection with various organizations and community groups across the country.
