Torys is proud to announce we have been named as honourees in three categories of The American Lawyer Global Legal Awards.
The Global Legal Awards recognize and honour cases which demonstrate the legal industry’s ability to handle complex cross-border legal issues.
Torys is listed as having worked on three award-winning cases across M&A and litigation. The three cases on which Torys worked are as follows:
Global M&A Deal of the Year: Canada
Torys acted as ITC Holdings’ Canadian counsel in its US$11.8 billion sale to Fortis Inc.
Global M&A Deal of the Year: Latin America
Torys represented Brookfield as U.S. and Canadian counsel in the negotiation of the co-investment and consortium arrangements, relating to its role as sponsor of a consortium of institutional partners investing US$5.2 billion to acquire a 90% stake in a system of natural gas transmission assets in the southeast of Brazil currently owned by Petróleo Brasileiro S.A. (Petrobras), Brazil’s state-run oil company
Global Dispute of the Year: Transnational Litigation
Torys was recognized for our work with Nortel U.S. group of companies on all Canadian law matters relating to its cross-border restructuring proceedings under the CCAA and Chapter 11, the sales of its business and assets in a series of auctions, and an ongoing dispute over apportionment of more than US$7 billion of net sales proceeds.
Winners will be formally recognized on September 25 in New York City.
