We at Torys are proud to recognize National Aboriginal Day, which is a day chosen by the Government of Canada in cooperation with Indigenous organizations to honour the diverse cultures and significant contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples. National Aboriginal Day occurs annually on or near summer solstice, during which time Indigenous peoples have historically celebrated their heritage and achievements.
This day is an opportunity to become better acquainted with the cultural diversity of Inuit, Métis and First Nations peoples, to discover their unique accomplishments in fields as varied as agriculture, the environment, business and the arts, and to commend their contributions to Canadian society. Traditional activities include opening and closing prayers, community feasts, pow-wows, drumming, traditional dancing and storytelling.
Events take place in cities across Canada. For those interested in joining the celebration, click here for event details.
