Torys is delighted to announce that senior associate Konata T. Lake has been named as one Precedent magazine’s 2017 Precedent Setters.
According to Precedent, the awards recognize lawyers "in their first 10 years of practice who excel in their careers and contribute to their communities." Konata certainly fits that bill both in terms of the excellence he holds himself to in his legal practice and his dedication to his community.
In an article profiling Konata, Precedent called out his significant work on “some of the most complex mergers and acquisitions in the country,” including his involvement last year as one of the lead lawyers representing the province in its sale of shares in Hydro One to the First Nations of Ontario. The article also describes what inspires Konata to give back to his community, which includes volunteer work with the Osgoode/Schulich Alumni Association and his dedication to the Regent Park Health Centre. Below is an excerpt of the article.
Lake’s mother died last year, after a six-year fight with cancer. Since 2009, he’s sponsored a scholarship in her name to help send a high-school student in the Jane and Finch area to university. “For the longest time, I wanted to learn from her. Then I wanted to make her proud. Now I want to continue her story.”
Congratulations to Konata on this well-deserved win! You can read Precedent’s complete profile on Konata here.
