Gillian Dingle and Martha MacDonald Named 2016 Lexpert® Rising Stars

Torys is delighted to announce that Gillian Dingle and Martha MacDonald have been recognized as Lexpert’s Rising Stars: Leading Lawyers Under 40. Lexpert awards this honour each year to a select group of in-house and private practice lawyers who have made a mark in multiple areas—as legal professionals, as business leaders and as members of the community. The award was handed out on November 17 at a reception in Toronto.

gillian dingleGillian Dingle joined the firm in 2015 as counsel to resume private practice after a number of years working at a major Canadian bank. Her practice focuses on civil litigation in the areas of corporate and securities law. In addition to a busy practice advising clients both on corporate matters as well as representing them before courts and other regulators, Gillian sits on the Steering Committee of the OSC Litigation Assistance Program that provides free legal assistance to unrepresented respondents to OSC administrative proceedings and volunteers with Golden Future, an organization that performs outreach work with high school students in Khyelitsha township in South Africa.


martha macdonaldMartha MacDonald joined the firm as a partner in 2015 to lead our Tax Controversy and Litigation Practice. She has extensive litigation experience representing clients before trial and appellate courts, as well as in dispute resolution with the Canada Revenue Agency and Provincial tax authorities. In addition to her practice, Martha has been a guest lecturer at the Faculty of Law, University of Toronto and has assisted in coaching teams in the Donald G. Bowman National Tax Moot since its inception. Martha’s earlier professional development boasts an international dimension, including an internship at the offices of a major international law firm in Düsseldorf, Germany, and working as a foreign legal trainee at a major law firm in Tokyo, Japan.
