Today marks the start of the holy month of Ramadan - the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. Ramadan is a time of fasting, spiritual reflection, generosity and worship. Fasting (one of Islam’s five main pillars) during the month of Ramadan is prescribed on those who are physically able to undertake it. For those who observe the fast, it entails abstaining from food or drink from sunrise to sunset. Like similar traditions in other faiths, fasting is intended to nurture a greater sense of compassion for the less fortunate, self-discipline, and gratitude for the past year's good fortune. It is a time to cleanse the soul, put into practice selflessness and rededicate oneself to worship and faith.
For those celebrating Ramadan here at Torys, we wish you and your families a Ramadan Mubarak!
