Our congratulations to Calgary partner Tony Cioni, who has been awarded a research paper grant from the Association of International Petroleum Negotiators (AIPN). Tony and his co-researchers (University of Calgary professor Dr. Fenner Stewart and industry consultant Doug Purcell) have received this grant as part of the AIPN's research paper program focusing on "legal and/or commercial issues of current interest to the international petroleum industry."
The goal of the paper is to provide an analysis of corporate security policies for upstream oil and gas projects—from how these policies are established to how they may be applied in a range of complex situations. According to the researchers' proposal outline, the paper will also include a "practical diligence framework that can be adapted for the implementation of [s]ecurity [p]olicies...this framework will provide the AIPN with the research necessary to start to develop standard form protocols and agreements for the provision of both governmental and private security services."
